Mark Stoleson

Chief Executive Officer

Mark Stoleson is Chief Executive Officer of the Legatum Group, a private global investment firm headquartered in Dubai.  Mr. Stoleson provides leadership for Legatum’s various divisions which include a deep-value public equity fund, a private equity fund focused on investing in for-profit enterprises with a social impact and the firm’s public policy and philanthropic endeavours.  Mr. Stoleson serves on the Boards of SHARE Microfin Limited, a leading microfinance institution in India; and Razoo.com, a leading online philanthropic marketplace.  During his tenure at Legatum’s predecessor firm, Sovereign Global Investment, Mr. Stoleson served in a number of roles including Head of Group Investments and President of Global Development.  Prior to joining Legatum, Mr. Stoleson was a corporate attorney at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, in Moscow, Russia and Dallas, Texas with a practice focused on corporate finance and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Stoleson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations at Occidental College and a JD-LLM from Duke University School of Law.

 

Philip Vassiliou

Managing Director

Philip Vassiliou is a Managing Director at Legatum primarily responsible for the Legatum Ventures portfolio and also oversees the Group’s capital markets activities. While at Legatum’s predecessor, Sovereign Global, Mr. Vassiliou held positions in both Group Investments and Sovereign Global Development. Prior to joining Sovereign Global, Mr. Vassiliou worked for the Dubai Development Investment Authority (DDIA) promoting foreign direct investment in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Before joining the DDIA, Mr. Vassiliou worked in the Equities & Private Wealth divisions of Goldman Sachs & Co. in both New York and London. Mr. Vassiliou is a graduate of Babson College (Wellesley, MA) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Managerial Finance and Economics. Mr. Vassiliou is also a board member of the Ubuntu Education Fund.

 

Alan McCormick

Managing Director

Alan McCormick is a Managing Director of the Legatum Group, a private global investment firm headquartered in Dubai.  Mr. McCormick has a wide range of responsibilities across Legatum’s various divisions which include a deep-value public equity fund, a private equity fund focused on investing in for-profit enterprises with a social impact and the firm’s public policy and philanthropic endeavours.  Mr. McCormick provides leadership for the group’s social investment portfolio, serving on the Boards of the Legatum Institute, a London-based free market think tank; the Legatum Foundation and Razoo, a leading online giving portal.  Mr. McCormick was formerly part of a special situations team at Sovereign Global Investment, a predecessor organisation to Legatum, and previous to that was a Vice President of Marketing for J.P. Morgan overseeing EMEA and Asia Pacific.

 

Darrin Payne

Chief Financial Officer

Darrin Payne is the Chief Financial Officer of Legatum. Previously, he headed the finance and compliance functions of GDI Property Group, and was a Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Munich. Mr Payne is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, and graduated from Griffith University in Brisbane with a Bachelor of Commerce.

 

Hamish Banks

Head of Corporate Communications

Hamish Banks is responsible for the development of the Legatum brand across all the Group divisions, for marketing strategy, and for media relations. Prior to joining Legatum in 2007, Mr Banks held numerous senior positions in advertising and marketing for companies such as Leo Burnett, Young & Rubicam and Ogilvy & Mather. Mr Banks' experience includes global leadership roles working with clients such as Citibank and Cathay Pacific Airways, and CEO and Managing Director positions in four countries. Mr Banks graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Classics.
