Partner and Chief Executive Officer

Mark Stoleson is the Chief Executive Officer and a Partner of Legatum. He has been with the firm for 12 years and served in various capacities including Head of Group Investments. Mark has worked with his partners at Legatum to incubate a number of the firm’s key philanthropic endeavours including the END Fund, Freedom Fund, Speed School Fund, The Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship at MIT, and the Legatum Institute Foundation in London. Prior to Legatum, Mark was a corporate finance and M&A attorney with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in Moscow, Russia and Dallas, Texas. He earned a BA in International Relations from Occidental College and a JD-LLM from Duke University School of Law.

Alan McCormick is a Partner of Legatum. He has been with the firm for 12 years serving in various capacities with a wide range of management responsibilities, including business development and corporate strategy, with a particular focus on the group’s social investment portfolio. Mr McCormick serves on the boards of directors of a number of philanthropic organisations including the END Fund, Freedom Fund and Speed School Fund and is Chairman of the London-based Legatum Institute, a leading public policy organisation. Mr McCormick was formerly a Vice President of Marketing for JP Morgan. He graduated from Queen Mary College, University of London with a BA in Politics and History.

Philip Vassiliou

Partner and Chief Investment Officer

Philip Vassiliou is the Chief Investment Officer and Partner of Legatum, primarily responsible for the oversight of Legatum’s capital markets activities and the Legatum Ventures portfolio. Mr Vassiliou previously worked for the Dubai Development Investment Authority, promoting foreign direct investment, and in the Equities & Private Wealth divisions of Goldman Sachs in New York and London. Mr Vassiliou is a graduate of Babson College.

Andrew Wright

Chief Financial Officer

Andrew Wright is the Chief Financial Officer at Legatum, responsible for Financial Reporting, Accounting and Middle Office across the Legatum Group. Prior to joining Legatum, Mr Wright worked for various boutique Investment Management businesses, primarily in London, where he built and lead teams, and developed infrastructure within Finance, Operations and Compliance, as well as being involved in launching new Hedge Fund businesses. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and holds a BSc in Economics from Cardiff University.

Rob Vickers
Rob Vickers
General Counsel

Rob Vickers is General Counsel at Legatum, with broad responsibility for legal matters across the Legatum Group.  Prior to joining Legatum in 2011, Mr Vickers was a general corporate attorney in the London and Dubai offices of an international law firm, with a focus on private equity, corporate restructurings and public and private M&A.  He studied law at King’s College, London and the College of Law and is a member of the Law Society of England & Wales.

Nick de Smith

Director of IT

Nick de Smith is the Director of IT with general responsibility for all IT within Legatum. Prior to joining Legatum in 2016, Mr de Smith worked in London for leading market information and trading systems businesses where he built and headed-up teams running both infrastructure and software development. He also spent several years in a similar role at a major publicly-quoted hedge fund and, before that, was responsible for designing and implementing novel trading algorithms for one of the world’s largest derivative exchanges. Mr de Smith holds a BSc in Electronic Engineering from Southampton University.
