Mr. Stoleson is President of Legatum Limited which was formed following the de-merger of Sovereign Global Investment. At Sovereign Global Mr. Stoleson served as President of Sovereign Global Development and Head of Group Investments at Sovereign Global Investment. Prior to joining Sovereign Global, he was a corporate attorney at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, in Moscow, Russia and Dallas, Texas. Mr. Stoleson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations at Occidental College and a JD-LLM from Duke University School of Law.
Derek Sheeler joined Legatum Capital as Chief Investment Officer upon the de-merger of Sovereign Global, where he served as Investment Manager from May 2005. Mr. Sheeler has over a decade of experience in research and portfolio management, working previously with the privately owned Olayan Group in New York and before that with Mario Gabelli and Wellington Management. Mr. Sheeler is a CFA charter holder and graduated first in his class from Plymouth University in New Hampshire. He earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Alan McCormick is a Managing Director at Legatum. Mr. McCormick formerly held positions at Sovereign Global Development and was Head of Corporate Communications at Sovereign Global Investment. Prior to joining Sovereign Global, Mr. McCormick was a Vice President of marketing at J.P. Morgan's Worldwide Securities group responsible for EMEA and Asia. He graduated from the University of London with joint honours in History and Politics and has completed the London Business School's Corporate Finance programme.
Philip Vassiliou is a Managing Director at Legatum. While at Legatum's predecessor, Sovereign Global, Philip held positions in both Group Investments and Sovereign Global Development. Prior to joining Sovereign Global, Philip worked for the Dubai Development Investment Authority (DDIA) promoting foreign direct investment in Dubai. Before joining the DDIA, Philip worked in the Equities & Private Wealth divisions of Goldman Sachs International in both New York and London. Philip is a graduate of Babson College (Wellesley, MA) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Managerial Finance and Economics. Philip is also a board member of the Ubuntu Education Fund.
Darrin Payne is Legatum's Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for financial management and reporting across the Legatum group. Mr.Payne joined Sovereign Global as Vice President of Finance where he was responsible for managing fund operations and financial reporting. Previously, he headed the finance and compliance functions of GDI Property Group, an Australian boutique property fund manager, and also worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Munich where he was responsible for managing financial due diligence reviews of potential acquisition targets. Mr. Payne has been an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia since 1997, and graduated from Griffith University in Brisbane with a Bachelor of Commerce.
Hamish Banks is Head of Corporate Communications for Legatum, and is responsible for the development of the Legatum brand across all the Group divisions, and for media relations. Prior to joining Legatum in 2007, Mr. Banks held numerous senior positions in advertising and marketing for companies such as Leo Burnett, Young & Rubicam and Ogilvy & Mather. Mr. Banks' experience includes global leadership roles working with clients such as Citibank and Cathay Pacific Airways, and CEO and Managing Director positions in four countries. Mr. Banks graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, with a BA in Classics.
